Vivo en Argentina desde hace más de veinte años y me siento parte de su sociedad. He vivido en este país la crisis del 2001, otras que siguieron, y muchos momentos de felicidad. Como nací y me eduqué en los Países Bajos, lo que al principio observé con sorpresa, con el tiempo lo he podido analizar desde las similitudes y las diferencias. Investigo la basura en las calles de diferentes ciudades. Cómo está dispuesta. Cuál es su expresión. Es una fuente de inspiración. Son los residuos del consumo, representan a la sociedad que los produce. En conjunto, muestran la futilidad, la evanescencia. El tema de la vanitas, que destaca lo efímero de los placeres mundanos, está íntimamente ligado a la pintura del país del que vengo. En mi vida y mis paseos por la ciudad de Buenos Aires se ha vuelto más rico y complejo. Estas obras (en la exposición) reúnen las impresiones e ideas que provienen de ambas realidades, en ellas dialogan aspectos de Rotterdam y de Buenos Aires.

I have lived in Argentina for more than twenty years and I feel part of its society. I have lived in this country through the crisis of 2001, others that followed, and many moments of happiness. As I was born and educated in the Netherlands, what I observed with surprise at the beginning, I have been able to analyze with time from the similarities and differences. I investigate the garbage in the streets of different cities. How it is arranged. What its expression is. It is a source of inspiration. They are the residues of consumption, they represent the society that produces them. As a whole, they show futility, evanescence. The theme of vanitas, which highlights the ephemerality of worldly pleasures, is closely linked to the painting of the country I come from. In my life and my walks through the city of Buenos Aires it has become richer and more complex. These works (in the exhibition) bring together the impressions and ideas that come from both realities, they dialogue aspects of Rotterdam and Buenos Aires.
